Attractive Niji
Ryu fights unify techniques from karate, judo and aikido. Participants
of the tournament were divided by age in several divisions, with no weight
categories within divisions. All fights were very interesting, from those
performed by the youngest ones, where no strikes and kicks were allowed,
to the fights of the oldest competitors, who showed whole spectrum of different
techniques. The audience was cheering all contestants loudly, approving
that Niji Ryu fights hit the spot!
Elder competitors in action: after establishing the grasp, no striking
techniques are allowed.
Grappling begins immediately.
Close to step off the mat and make "jogai".
Low kick is forbidden - but anything happens during the fight...
As always, mae geri and mawashi geri are the most favorite kicking
techniques
Groundfight always requires careful observation from the referee. Sensei
Milojevic closely watching the youngest ones.
Niji Ryu Kumite rules allow more locking techniques than judo, including
nikyo (kote mawashi) and kote gaeshi.
Girls in action - true test of grappling skills:
contestants were allowed to wear shirts, budogi was not mandatory outfit.
Waiting for the results...
Lifting hand of the winner - just like in boxing. Photo to the right:

Congratulations, fair play and knightly behavior - the true spirit
of Niji Ryu
